Love, Simon is one of the movies we’re most looking forward to in 2018.
Audiences got a short look at the gay teen film in November, but this full-length trailer features tons of new footage. This movie only looks better and better.
Based on the book, Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli, it focuses on 17-year-old Simon Spier (Nick Robinson).
Simon is a normal high school kid. ‘I have a family that I actually like, and there’s my friends,’ he says in the trailer. ‘We do everything friends do — we drink way too much iced coffee while gorging on carbs.’
The only different thing? He’s gay and still in the closet.
When he suddenly gets a new pen pal who says he’s a closeted student as well, he finds someone he can confide in. Like discussing how he first realized he was gay. (At a school dance, he ran away from the girl he was dancing with and told his mom to come pick him up because kids were drinking alcohol.)
However, when the emails fall into the wrong hands, Simon is forced to confront several truths.
‘Over these last few years,’ his mom (Jennifer Garner) tells him. ‘It’s almost like I can feel you holding your breath.’
Yup, there are definitely going to be tears.
Josh Duhamel, Jennifer Garner, Alexandra Shipp, and Keiynan Lonsdale also star in the film.
Greg Berlanti, primarily known for his work in the world of television, directs the movie. Writing team Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger penned the adaptation.
Love, Simon arrives in theaters on 16 March in the US.
