They’re famously thoughtful on matters of sex and sexuality.
And in their latest social post, Nico Tortorella has made a powerful point about masturbation, unpacking why it’s a healthy expression of one’s queerness.
Oh, and they’ve also shared some thirsty pics of themselves starting the act of self-love to go with it. Because, why not?
Nico then points out, however, that doesn’t mean they haven’t explored their own queerness in other ways – and specifically, via fantasy.

‘I am my own lover’
Nico’s message reads: ‘Let’s break some things down for a minute. I talk all this big game about polyamory and LGBTQ identity. This year, I haven’t had the time to properly explore secondary or tertiary relationships outside my marriage in meaningful ways. That however does not invalidate my queer existence. In fact, the majority of my sexual expression manifests via self pleasure.’
They furthermore continued: ‘Masturbation is a healthy, personally intimate sexual activity. It has many benefits for your physical and mental health. It’s a natural and safe way to explore your body, fantasies, feel pleasure, and release built-up sexual tension. In short, I am my own lover.
‘We are all lovers. The word Lovers is expansive and universal. A Lover is not only someone who shows affection to others, but can also be anyone practicing self-love. A Lover’s partner can be someone they’re in a committed relationship with, someone they are casual with, or anywhere in between. A Lover goes beyond describing relationships and people, and can also be a favorite toy or product.
‘Lovers is a name for all seeking, receiving and giving sexual pleasure. Each individual has a right to sexual pleasure and autonomy defined by their own expression. Everyone, regardless of race, gender identification, sexual orientation, ability, or socio-economic status deserves to reach their greatest pleasure potential.’
‘Healthy sexual practices can boost your immune system, decrease your risk of cancer’
They also said: ‘Did you know that sex was recently added to Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, along with other basic human needs like food and water? I’m partnering with @loversstores to help educate my community on the importance of sexual wellness in our overall health.
‘For far too long, we’ve existed in a space that has stifled and shamed our basic human need for sex and intimacy.
‘Engaging in healthy sexual practices can boost your immune system, lessen pain, decrease your risk of cancer, lower your blood pressure and more.’
They finally added: ‘Together with Lover’s, we are building a community that is welcoming, empowering, inclusive and informative – a place that promotes open conversation about sex. We want to enable passion, exploration, creativity and curiosity. Join us…WE. ARE. LOVERS.’
