Nike fires boxer Manny Pacquiao for his ‘abhorrent’ anti-gay comments

Manny Pacquiao said gay people are worse than animals

Manny Pacquiao has been fired by Nike for saying gay couples are ‘worse than animals.’

Nike, which has had a relationship with the eight-time world champion since 2006 issued a statement today saying, ‘We find Manny Pacquiao’s comments abhorrent.

‘Nike strongly opposes discrimination of any kind and has a long history of supporting and standing up for the rights of the LGBT community.

‘We no longer have a relationship with Manny Pacquiao.’

The Filipino boxer, pastor and national hero is running for a seat in the senate and was asked about his stance on gay marriage in an interview with Bilang Pilipino on Monday (15 February).

‘It’s only common sense. Would you see any species of animals who engage in male to male, female to female [sexual] relations? Animals, then, are better than humans [in that sense]. They know how to distinguish males from females,’ he said.

‘If people then engage in male to male, female to female relations, then they are worse than animals.’

Multiple sources connected to the situation tell TMZ that Pacquiao personally tried to save the deal up until the last minute.
