New York City Pride has just announced who is going to serve as this year’s Grand Marshals.
The cast of the Ryan Murphy-produced groundbreaking show Pose has earned the honor of leading the parade.
Pose explores the ball culture world and addresses issues related to the black trans community in 1980s New York City.
Three actresses from Pose will march at NYC Pride
Trans actresses Dominique Jackson, Indya Moore, and Mj Rodriguez will march at WorldPride 2019. They play Elektra, Angel, and Bianca respectively on season 1 of the FX show.
Pose will return for a second season on 9 June, with a time jump to the 1990s.
Who are the other Marshals?
Co-founder of UK Black Pride Phyll Opoku-Gyimah and trans activist Monica Helms will also serve as Marshals. They will be joined by activists from the Gay Liberation Front and The Trevor Project.
Not only the Grand Marshals will lead the 50th NYC Pride March on Sunday 30 June, but will also lead this year’s commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the 1969 Stonewall Uprising.
This year’s march will kick off at 12pm from 26th Street and 5th Avenue.
The route will then proceed south on 5th Avenue before heading west on 8th Street.
After crossing over 6th Avenue, the March will continue on Christopher Street, passing the site designated in 2016 by President Barack Obama as the Stonewall National Monument.
It will turn north on 7th Avenue, passing the New York City AIDS Memorial, before dispersing in Chelsea just north of 23rd Street and 7th Avenue.
