One Direction Louis Tomlinson is so sick of fans’ obsession with him and bandmate Harry Styles that he has banned the ‘ship’ nickname Larry on Instagram.
Fans have long suspected the British boyband star was gay, even when Tomlinson announced he was going to be a dad.
‘Larry is the biggest load of bullshit I’ve ever heard,’ he tweeted in 2012. ‘I’m happy why can’t you accept that.’
So it’s not exactly surprising Tomlinson decided to use the new moderation features on Instagram to block followers who use the word in their comments.
And while he may have hoped that would be the end of Larry, it turns out it has had the opposite effect.
Fans are now using Lerry, L A R R Y, LARRRY and #FreeLarry to promote their favorite ‘ship’.
Styles may have wanted to stay away from the Barbra Streisand effect of banning Larry, but it turns out he’s been caught up in the wave of the resurgance of the ‘Larry’ movement.
He hasn’t banned the nickname from his account, so Directioners have gone to town on the Larry comments.
