One Million Moms turns its attention to Toys R Us

One Million Moms, the group that unsuccessfully tried to get Ellen DeGeneres fired as JC Penney spokeswoman because she is a leabian, is now threatening a boycott of the Toys R Us retail chain.

The group is upset with the chain because some of its locations are selling the current issue of the comic book Life With Archie which features two of its male characters getting married.

'Unfortunately, children are now being exposed to same-sex marriage in a toy store,' the group writes on its website. 'This is the last place a parent would expect to be confronted with questions from their children on topics that are too complicated for them to understand. Issues of this nature are being introduced too early and too soon, which is becoming extremely common and unnecessary.'

The group is encouraging people to write to Toys R Us and request that they remove the comic book from their stores.

The Archie comics series was first published in 1942. Its many series feature the fictional teenagers of Archie Andrews, Betty Cooper, Veronica Lodge, Reggie Mantle and Jughead Jones.

The current issue of the Life With Archie series is number 16 in a series that imagines the Riverdale gang five or six years after graduation.

It has two alternate timelines – one in which Archie married Betty, another in which he married Veronica. Kevin's wedding appears as part of a story showing Archie and Betty's married life.

One of the grooms in the current issue is Riverdale's first gay character, Kevin Keller, who ties the knot with Dr. Clay Walker, a physical therapist. The pair met met while Kevin was rehabilitating from an injury he suffered while in the military and stationed in Iraq.

They don't get together as doctor and patient, however. They only begin dating after a chance encounter at an airport.

It remains to be seen how effective such protests from One Million Moms can be.

JC Penney stood by DeGeneres who also enjoyed solid public support. Her commercials for the retail chain had a very high-profile debut on Sunday during the Academy Award telecast.
