Openly gay actor Sean Maher of Firefly fame is now married man

Sean Maher is now a married man.

The actor best known for his role as Simon Tam in the science fiction television series Firefly casually shared the big news on Twitter: ‘I sit here and Tweet. Check my profile. Still pretty much the same. Oh… but I change ‘Partner’ to ‘Husband’. Cus that happened.’

Maher married longtime partner, Paul (surname unknown) who he has been with since 2006.

The couple have a daughter named Sophia Rose born in 2007 and a son named Liam Xavier born 2010.

Maher came out publicly in 2011 while playing a closeted gay man on the short-lived NBC series The Playboy Club.

He came to fame in 2009 when he landed the starring role in the 1999 TV police drama Ryan Caulfield: Year One.

Maher had also had regular or recurring roles on the TV series Party of Five, The $treet and Make It or Break It, played Brian Picalo in a remake of Brian’s Song and John Stamos’ fiancee in Wedding Wars.

His feature film credits include the Firefly sequel Serenity and Much Ado About Nothing.

More recently Maher have voiced the characters of Dick Grayson / Nightwing in an series of animated Batman films and had a recurring role in the first season of the popular online series Eastsiders.

Shortly after coming out publicly, Maher told the website Greg In Hollywood: ‘It was 14 years that I sort of had this layer of fear on me so it does feel different to kind to kind of shed all of this past baggage. This part of my life that was so huge that I didn’t feel comfortable enough to share for fear of my career being destroyed.’
