Paris court finds gay performance artist guilty of exhibitionism for tying rooster to penis

South African born performance artist Steven Cohen has been found guilty by a Paris court over a September 2013 public performance in which he danced in platform shoes in the shadow of the Eiffel Tower with a rooster tied to his penis by a leash.

The 51-year-old Artist danced for around 10 minutes before being arrested by police but maintains the performance was not intended in any way to be sexual.

During the performance Cohen wore a headdress and gloves decorated with feathers and a corset but he was naked, apart from stockings and his shoes from the waste down.

Cohen will not spend any time in prison over the performance but he has been fined €1,000 (US$1,390) over the event.

Cohen has previously staged performances in New York, Japan and his native South Africa amongst other places.

Cohen told AFP that he intends to leave France for another country to continue his art practice but would not say where he will pop up next.

‘I don’t like to say what I’m going to do next because I like to surprise myself,’ he said.
