Lily Allen accused of being homophobic

Lily Allen is the subject of outrage after saying ‘Fags hate Trump on Twitter while missing the context for why she appeared to say it.

The British singer recently covered gay artist Rufus Wainwright’s song Waiting For A Town as an anti-Donald Trump anthem.

In the video, she is seen pictured against a sign saying Fags Hate Trump – a parody of the God Hates Fags Westboro Baptist Church.

After the video’s release, she quote-tweeted Gay Times magazine and repeated what it said on the sign.

One fan said: ‘Please don’t refer to us as FAGS, we are lesbian, gay bisexual, transgender if anyone has to be labeled.’

Other people were upset.

In response, Allen said simply: ‘It’s on the poster on the picture.’

Veteran LGBTI rights campaigner Peter Tatchell also sided with the singer, saying: ‘The fuss over placard “Fags Hate Trump” is well-intentioned but misguided. “Fags” is not used with insulting intent.’

‘The way fags was used was not derogatory but proud and defiant.’
