Ellen Degeneres and Jim Parsons

There were a host of stunning LGBTI winners at the 2018 E! People’s Choice Awards last night (11 November).

Held at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California, the awards show is in its 44th year.

Here are all of the LGBTI celebrities and shows featuring LGBTI characters who took home awards this year:

Ellen Degeneres

LGBTI icon Ellen Degeneres was nominated for several awards this year.

These include: Competition Show of 2018 for Ellen’s Game of Games, Social Celebrity of 2018 and Daytime Talk Show of 2018.

She only won the latter.

The Spy Who Dumped Me

The Spy Who Dumped Me won Comedy Movie of 2018.

It’s a movie about two best friends who unwittingly become entangled in an international conspiracy when one of the women discovers the boyfriend who dumped her was actually a spy.

It stars Mila Kunis and Kate McKinnon – the latter identifying as a lesbian.

Mila Kunis accepted the award and spoke about the recent California fires in her speech. She said: ‘We are in a state of emergency. You know, I have this opportunity and I want to say if you can take a minute to donate to the LASD Foundation it would be really, really great.’

Harry Shum Jr.

While Harry identifies as straight, his character on hit-show Shadowhunters is bisexual.

The series centers on a band of young half-human, half-angel Shadowhunters who track down demons. One of the Shadowhunters is handsome Alec Lightwood (played by Matthew Daddario).

As he struggles with being in the closet, he falls for a powerful Warlock called Magnus Bane (Harry Shum Jr).

During Shum’s speech last night, he thanked his fans for all of the fan mail he receives.

He also thanked his ‘beautiful wife, who is my plus-two today’ – revealing she’s pregnant.

Jim Parsons

Openly gay star of The Big Bang Theory, Jim Parsons, took home the award for Comedy TV Star for 2018.

The Big Bang Theory was also nominated for Show of 2018 and Comedy Show of 2018, but did not win either.

Parsons recently announced his departure from the hit-show. He’s currently developing a new sitcom about a gay couple in a small town.

Riverdale

While three of the show’s main cast were hoping to take home awards, none of them were successful.

Cole Sprouse, Camila Mendes and KJ Apa were all up for nominations, but the show didn’t walk away empty-handed.

It won Drama Show of 2018.

The show has featured several LGBTI storylines, including a hugely popular romance between Cheryl and Toni.

It’s also featured gay character Kevin Keller since the very first episode, in various relationships with men.

James Charles

Beauty Influencer of 2018 went to hugely popular gay YouTuber James Charles.

He rose to fame in 2016 after his school senior year photo went viral.

He’s since become the face of CoverGirl and featured in TIME’s most influential teens list.

Orange is the New Black

This hugely popular show was only up for one nomination – Comedy Show of 2018 – and it won.

The show features several same-sex romances, as well as trans actress Laverne Cox.

LGBTI actresses Lea DeLaria, Ruby Rose and Samira Wiley all feature on the hit comedy show, set in a women’s prison.

Despite its critically-acclaimed success, the show will not be returning next year.
