An already been a big year for Ellen Page and Jared Leto just got better with the acclaimed film stars being named the sexiest vegetarians of 2014 by PETA.
PETA, which stands for People for Ethical Treatment of Animals, hold an annual annual Sexiest Vegetarian Celebrity contest and this year’s winners both have LGBTI ties.
Page, one of the stars of the most recent X-Men film, came out publicly as a lesbian on Valentine’s Day at a Human Rights Campaign event in Las Vegas.
Just a few weeks later, Leto win the Academy Award for best supporting actor for his performance as a transgender woman in Dallas Buyers Club.
Page, who came to fame with an Oscar-nominated performance in the film Juno, triumphed over Ariana Grande, Jessica Paré, Laura Prepon, and Sarah Silverman for the PETA prize.
Leto, also lead singer for the band 30 Seconds to Mars, bested Joaquin Phoenix, Samuel L. Jackson, Peter Dinklage, and Woody Harrelson.
Leto, 41, may have sealed the PETA title when he was asked by British GQ how he manages to look at least 10 years younger than he is.
‘I’m pretty healthy so I think that helps a lot,’ he said. ‘I’ve been that way for a long time—20 solid years of eating vegetarian/vegan and taking care of myself. That probably helps the preservation process.’
Page took to Twitter to share her concerns over what she sees as the cruelty of the meat, dairy, and egg industries.
‘Why are vegans made fun of while the inhumane factory farming process regards animals and the natural world merely as commodities to be exploited for profit?’ she asked in a tweet.
Previous winners of PETA’s Sexiest Vegetarian Celebrity contest include Kristen Bell, Woody Harrelson, Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wiig, Russell Brand, Olivia Wilde, Carrie Underwood, Prince, Natalie Portman, Shania Twain, Leona Lewis, Andre 3000, Tobey Maguire, and Alicia Silverstone.
