‘No one can be you’: Pink gives powerful speech while receiving Hollywood Star

Pink receives a kiss from her husband while holding the plaque showing her Hollywood star

Singer Pink received her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Tuesday (5 February). As she accepted the honor, she gave a powerful speech about being true to your authentic self.

Ellen DeGeneres introduced Pink during yesterday’s morning ceremony.

The singer’s husband, Carey Hart, and their two children, Jameson Moon and Willow Sage accompanied her.

‘This is surreal,’ Pink began, addressing the crowd. ‘I feel like a lot of people probably only thought I’d make it to the walk of shame, but here I am.’

Throughout her speech, Pink returned to the idea of living authentically.

‘Today for me is a celebration of something that my dad taught me, and that is “To thine own self be true,”‘ she said. The quote comes from William Shakespeare’s tragedy Hamlet.

‘You may not be the best that ever did it, you may not be the prettiest or the tallest or the funniest or the most talented or whatever you tell yourself that you’re not. If you don’t give up and you work really hard ― no one else can ever be you.’

While speaking, she also thanked her husband and childred, stating: ‘You guys are my stars and I would never shine without you.’

Hart made an Instagram post in honor of this achievement.

Over the course of her career, Pink has used her voice to empower others, especially women and the LGBTI community.

She defended Kesha in her legal battle against Dr. Luke, wore a ‘Make America Gay Again’ hat, and gave a speech about androgyny and beauty at the VMAs.
