From Blow Me (One Last Kiss) to So What to Raise Your Glass, P!nk’s comeback singles usually follow a certain template.
In other words, they’re usually supersized pop-rock party anthems
But the singing superstar and noted lesbian icon has defied convention with the first track from her upcoming album Beautiful Trauma.
The track is named What About Us. It sees the 37-year-old take a decidedly more low key and somber tone her latest assault on the charts.
Of course, it’s not the first time P!nk had deviated into mature, heartfelt balladry.
Who Knew, Just Like a Pill and Try are just a few of the lower tempo numbers that have lit up the charts in the past, but they were typically the second or third releases of an album cycle.
The lyrics subtlety hint as political discontent, with the star asked a series of heartfelt questions of no one in particular (‘What about all the times you said you had the answers? What about all the broken happy ever afters? What about all the plans that ended in disasters?’ she sings.)
‘I’m certifiably, insanely proud of this album’
Beautiful Trauma will be P!nk’s first studio album in five years. The release date is 13 October.
Taking to Instagram, the star said: ‘I could not be more excited right now.’
She furthermore added: ‘I’m certifiably, insanely proud of this album. It’s been a while, and I’m grateful for all the years we’ve had. Looking forward to the next chapter with you.’
Good to have you back, P!nk!
