Pope Francis says it’s ‘terrible’ kids can ‘choose’ their own gender

Pope Francis will attend the Meeting of Families on 25-26 August.

Pope Francis has gone on a new rant against transgender people, saying it is ‘terrible’ children are people taught that gender is a ‘choice’.

The leader of the Catholic Church has also said we are currently ‘living a moment of annihilation of man as image of God’.

‘Today, in schools they are teaching this to children – to children! – that everyone can choose their gender,’ Francis said in a meeting with bishops from Poland.

He blamed textbooks supplied by ‘persons and institutions who donate money’, according to the AP. The pope also blamed ‘ideological colonizing’ backed by ‘very influential countries’ which he didn’t identify.

This isn’t the last time Francis has appeared to go on a rant about transgender people.

Back in 2015, he appeared to claim transgender people who ‘manipulate’ their bodies to ‘disfigure the face of man and woman’ are comparable to nuclear weapons.

Jane Fae, a transgender Catholic and expert on Vatican issues, said it is possible Francis is not referring to transgender people at all but on ‘gender roles’.

‘I wish he would say what he means,’ she told Gay Star News. ‘At this moment the Catholic Church does not have an official start on transgender issues. The pope wittering on about something like this is the equivelance of a presidential candidate in America that says things that he knows will play to an audience.

‘Until the Church adresses the issue, and makes an official announcement on transgender people, people will continue to interpret his words from the most liberal to the most conservative.

‘By not taking a position, the pope is able to play to the right wing without actually taking an actual stance. The bottom line is, it’s about bloody time he tells what he means.’
