There was a huge queer prom hosted in Brighton and it looked absolutely iconic

A queer prom happened in Brighton last weekend and we’re incredibly jealous.

Vicki Cook put the event together ‘ to give those in the LGBT community another chance to have the best prom of their lives. ‘

Queer Prom UK took place on 12 January at music-venue Komedia.

Brighton on the UK’s south coast.

Cook explained to The Independent: ‘Queer Prom came about out of a desire to change the narrative around LGBTQ+ people’s experiences of prom,

‘We spoke with members of our community about their experiences of prom and no one had a positive prom story.

‘Either they didn’t go to their prom or they went but weren’t able to have the experience that they wanted to because of their gender or sexuality among other things.’

Drag queens, performers and DJs made it a night to not be missed.

Proceeds from the night went to Allsorts Youth Project and LGBTQ mental health charity, MindOut.

Cook finished by adding: ‘We will also be taking Queer Prom on the road, such as to London, Bristol and Manchester, so keep an eye out for us!’

Thanks for taking me to @queerprombrighton @zaynphallic – a mere twenty years after sacking off my school #prom and it was definitely worth the wait. Amazing performances and so many lovely #queer people being lovely and queer. Can’t wait for the next one! | Photo: artemisdbear Instagram
