REVIEW: Hilton London Tower Bridge

Hotels in blockbuster cities ought to provide an escape from the hustle and bustle, while emphasizing a sense of awe and wonder – more often than not, though, said hotels are busy, cramped, overpriced and create a whirlwind of stress akin to the one you were trying to escape.

Not the Hilton London Tower Bridge, however. This impressive ten storey stopover is an oasis of calm with utterly stunning views of the titular bridge, the Shard, the financial district and the River Thames, best enjoyed from the hotel’s ninth-floor Executive Lounge Terrace, while relaxing over canapés and a glass of red wine.

The hotel’s best quality though, is a sense of businesslike efficiency, reflective in the hotel’s modern, unfussy decor – all sombre creams and browns – as well as the world class service. On our visit, the unflappable, on-the-ball reception staff dealt with an influx of customers with patience and focus; friendly and polite but with a smart sense of formality and not overfamiliar.

Our spacious, airy double room, meanwhile, was of the usual impeccable but unfussy standard one expects of the Hilton brand. Featuring a neutral, tasteful decor and complete with a huge work station, large bathroom, ample wardrobe space and 37-inch plasma TV, it definitely felt more like a suite than a room.

As an additional bonus: the hotel is walking distance from London Bridge and Bank – two of the most well-connected train stations in the city; meanwhile popular tourist landmarks such as the Tower of London, the Tate Modern and Borough Market are all under a mile away.

A winner of a hotel that we’d love to visit again.
