Ricky Martin on being a single dad: I can’t bring different men home every day

Ricky Martin has opened up about how being single dad has affected his dating life.

The openly gay singer is the father of twins Valentino and Matteo, who were born by surrogate in 2008.

Martin, who split with businessman boyfriend Carlos Gonzalez Abella in January 2014, said he was dating again and would eventually like to get married.

‘For me that paper is important. I also love the romanticism behind it,’ he told the Sun.

‘I am single now after seven years. I meet people. I’m fine. I meet very handsome men. I like to have a conversation, looking into someone’s eyes and finding out their sense of humor. I’m not saying you have to be an Adonis, but you have to connect.’

But the 43-year-old admitted having kids can complicate things.

‘We’re all men. It’s in our DNA to go for it,’ he said.

‘But I have two boys and I cannot bring different men every day into my house.’

Fatherhood has had such a profound effect on Ricky that he cannot fathom how fashion designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana could call IVF babies ‘synthetic children.’

‘I wish them lots of enlightenment. Their voices are too powerful to be spreading so much hate. I hope they analyze a bit to work out what life really is about and what the future has for us,’ he said.

‘Surrogacy is a beautiful process.’
