The rideshare service Lyft is receiving an equality award

The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) is bestowing its Corporate Equality Award to the rideshare service Lyft this year. The company will receive the award at the 2017  San Francisco Bay Area Gala and Auction on Saturday, 14 October.

Lyft is a nationwide rideshare service with headquarters in San Francisco. CEO Logan Green and president John Zimmer founded the company in 2012.

Zimmer will accept the award at the gala.

‘Lyft has been a strong ally to the LGBTQ community, both with its inclusive internal policies for employees and its public positions supporting pro-equality legislation and policies across the country,’ said Deena Fidas, director of the Workplace Equality Program at HRC.

Within the company, Lyft has both anti-discrimination policies and gender inclusion & affirmation policies.

They also paired with HRC for their Round Up campaign. User who participate in the campaign round up their fare when using Lyft. Users donate the difference to a list of charities, including HRC, Girls Who Code, World Wildlife Fund, and more.

According to HRC, so far 75,000 Lyft riders have donated to the organization.

Furthermore, Lyft joined a brief supporting the transgender student Gavin Grimm in his discrimination lawsuit.

Lyft’s Head of Inclusion and Diversity Tariq Meyers said: ‘Lyft is honored to receive this award and to be part of the incredible work being done by HRC. While every Lyft ride is a place to be yourself, we know that’s not the case for everyone, everywhere. That’s why we’re so committed to continuing to support HRC’s efforts on behalf of the LGBTQ community.’

PepsiCo received the same award at the New York gala earlier this year.
