Riverdale showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa revealed there is an upcoming alternate universe episode in the works.
While Aguirre-Sacasa was tight-lipped on the shocking mid-season finale, he spilled the tea on the setting of some of the episodes.
More screen time for Cheryl Blossom
The alternate universe episode Bizarrodale will take place in a reality where the four protagonists won’t have the faces of Archie, Betty, Veronica, and Jughead.
‘Instead of Archie, Betty, Veronica, and Jughead being the Core Four, it treats Kevin, Cheryl, Reggie, and Josie as the Core Four,’ Aguirre-Sacasa told The Wrap.
‘And it’s a really fun episode. A really fun episode. I’m really excited about that one.’
This means lesbian and sass queen Cheryl Blossom, portrayed by Madelaine Petsch, will have more screen time. It is not clear whether she will still have a relationship with Toni Topaz, played by Vanessa Morgan, in the episode.
He also revealed Season 3 will feature a noir-themed episode. Aguirre-Sacasa told the website that the show’s got ‘an episode coming up that is completely noir: How it’s written, how it’s shot, the plot of it. And it’s really fun.’
A crossover episode with Chilling Adventures of Sabrina?
His revelation had fans hoping for a crossover episode with Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, the Netflix reboot created by Aguirre-Sacasa. Just like Riverdale, the show on the teenage witch is an adaptation of an Archie Comics character.
‘There’s one thing I’m trying to figure out that’s a nice Easter egg that I’m trying to get permission to do — but it’s too soon to talk about yet,’ the showrunner said.
‘We’re still in production on the second part of Sabrina, we haven’t wrapped yet,’ he said.
‘I think right now our focus is all on wrapping up and getting that landed in a great way. I think once that’s behind us, I think we’ll be able to really investigate and have the conversations about this. That’s my hope at least.’
