Riverdale Madelaine Petsch reveals her character Cheryl is a lesbian

Cherly Blossom in Riverdale

Riverdale actress Madelaine Petsch opened up on her character’s sexuality in a recent Q&A with her fans.

Petsch plays bombshell Cheryl Blossom, head cheerleader of the River Vixens and the twin sister of the late Jason Blossom.

At the end of season 2, it was revealed that Cheryl liked women, leading to a romance with Southside Serpent, Toni Topaz, portrayed by Vanessa Morgan.

Cheryl was ‘figuring herself out’

Petsch first revealed her character on The CW show was bisexual in a YouTube Q&A earlier this year.

‘Cheryl is definitely interested in both women and men. So, I would say she’s bisexual. I think you’re gonna see a lot more of her figuring out who she is,’ Petsch explained in March 2018.

However, in her most recent video, she said otherwise.

‘Yes, I do think Cheryl is a lesbian,’ she said on 14 November.

She explained she had spoken to Riverdale showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who also created Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.

‘I’ve actually been talking to Roberto about it a lot and I think we’ve kind of figured out that Cheryl is a lesbian,’ Petsch said.

‘This is definitely who she is as a person.’

The actress also clarified her character was figuring herself out in the first two seasons.

She was ‘exploring her sexuality as we do as humans and I think she has figured it out’.
