Robbie Rogers may be one of the most famous openly gay men in sports, but he is also now inspiring what will be making us laugh next year.
ABC has confirmed ‘Men In Shorts’, a single-camera comedy inspired by the soccer player, will air in 2015.
The show will follow a young professional soccer player who takes ‘one small step out of the closet and one giant leap into the spotlight’.
On Twitter, Rogers said he was ‘really excited to be part of this’.
Showrunner Claudia Lonow will be hoping for more success than her last attempt at a comedy, as her last show How to Live with Your Parents (For the Rest of Your Life) was cancelled by ABC after just one season.
Rogers will be helping with the creation of the comedy, with Jordan Nardino signed on as a writer and executive producer. Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, the openly gay producers of the last two Academy Awards telecasts and next year’s as well, will also help develop the show.
