Rocketman trailer promises glamorous and fantastical Elton John biopic
Taron Egerton looks and sounds just like the icon

The first official trailer for the upcoming biopic Rocketman is as glitzy, glamorous, and full of fantasy as its subject, Elton John.
Taron Egerton stars in the flick as the iconic gay singer. The film details John’s life and career from the time before he became famous, as Reginald Dwight, to the singer people know and love now, performing in fabulously over-the-top costumes.
Recent behind-the-scenes footage of the film showed Egerton singing classic Elton John hits. He sounds truly excellent and John endorsed him as well.
John once told Giles Martin, the music producer of the movie, that he’s never ‘heard anyone sing my songs better than Taron’.
The trailer shows even more delightful clips of the actor completely transformed.
The movie also stars Jamie Bell as Elton’s longtime lyricist and writing partner Bernie Taupin. Also in the cast are Richard Madden as Elton’s first manager, John Reid, and Bryce Dallas Howard as Elton’s mother Sheila Farebrother.
Egerton has spoken — twice — about filming a gay sex scene with Madden. It was his first sex scene and he described it as ‘quite physical’.
‘I feel that the movie we’ve shot is absolutely a celebration of everything that Elton John is, and part of that is his sexuality,’ he continued.
Dexter Fletcher, who was brought in to finish Bohemian Rhapsody after Bryan Singer’s firing, is directing Rocketman.
The movie is slated for release on 24 May in the UK and 31 May in the US.
