Roger Moore: James Bond could never be gay

Sir Roger Moore played James Bond in seven movies.

Sir Roger Moore has said James Bond could never be gay – or a woman.

The 88-year-old, who acted in seven Bond movies, previously landed himself in hot water for saying the womanizing spy should be ‘English-English.’

‘I have heard people talk about how there should be a lady Bond or a gay Bond. But they wouldn’t be Bond for the simple reason that wasn’t what Ian Fleming wrote,’ he told The Daily Mail.

‘It is not about being homophobic or, for that matter, racist – it is simply about being true to the character.’

His comments come days after current Bond actor Daniel Craig said a black, female or gay Bond were all ‘possible.’

‘You can do anything as long as it’s credible and it works,’ he said.

And another Bond star, Pierce Brosnan, has said he would have no problem with a gay 007, although he doubted producers would allow it.
