Rosie O’Donnell and Elizabeth Rooney confirmed their engagement yesterday (23 October).
The couple spoke to People, but said the big day may be a long way in the future.
‘This is a long time in the future. We both decided that that would be best,’ O’Donnell said in a comment at the 15th-anniversary celebration of her organization, Rosie’s Theater Kids.
O’Donnell, 56, began dating Rooney, 33, in November 2017.
According to reports, O’Donnell asked Rooney to marry her over the summer. She also had nothing but glowing words to say about her fiancée: ‘She lives in Boston now and I live here in New York. It’s been a long-distance thing. It’s been great. I think she’s a wonderful woman.’
She also joked about their age-gap and that most people mistake Rooney for O’Donnell’s 20-year-old daughter Chelsea.
‘I keep telling her I’m too old for her. But she doesn’t seem to care,’ O’Donnell told the magazine.
‘She’s like, “I was in the Army! I put my life on the line every day you think I don’t know who I want to date?” I’m like, “Alright I guess that’s true.” She has a lot of good points.’
O’Donnell was previously married to Michelle Rounds, who died of apparent suicide last year. They had one child, 5-year-old Dakota.
She also has four other children with ex-wife Kelli Carpenter-O’Donnell.
