The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s son Prince George will have a playdate with a gay couple’s daughter.
Royal visitors Prince William and wife Kate are in New Zealand with their eight-month old son.
Tomorrow (9 April), they will meet with 10 families with babies who were all born around the same time as the future king.
Among the group chosen to meet the royals are gay dads Jared and Ryan Mullen and their daughter Isabella.
The couple were chosen to represent the growing members of same-sex couples in New Zealand who use parental support services by Plunket that organized the play date.
Tristine Clark, New Zealand president of Plunket, said: ‘The parents are a spread of all the communities in New Zealand, including Maoris, Samoans, people of Chinese descent and gay couples.
‘This is a very multi-cultural country and we wanted the Duke and Duchess to meet people from all backgrounds.’
Clark said the Duke and Duchess did not specifically ask to meet a gay couple and their child, leaving the choice of parents entirely down to Plunket.
It is thought the visit will be the first time Prince George has had the opportunity to play with a large group of babies.
The families said they were looking forward to swapping stories on the trials of parenthood.
