In a world-first Thailand will be home to its own version of RuPaul’s Drag Race, complete with a blessing from mother-darling herself.
Last year, one of Thailand’s oldest and biggest production companies, Kantana Company announced it would be making its own version of the popular reality show which pits drag queens against each other to compete for the ultimate drag crown.
But until only a few days ago, nobody had any idea how the show would work or what it would look like.
Kantana Company’s vice-president Piyarat Kaljareuk shared photos on his personal Instagram giving people a sneak peek of the show’s set.
‘This new year, WE are preparing the juicy and glamorous present for you guys,’ Kaljareuk wrote on one Instagram post.
‘Drag Race Thailand confirmed! See you soon on #LINETV, a blast guaranteed!!’
It is not yet known who will host the show or who the judges will be, but Kantana’s posts have generated a lot of interest from fans. An air date is also yet to be confirmed.
Kaljareuk also has the blessing of RuPaul and her production company, World of Wonder, to start the Thai version of the show.
He posted a photo with himself and staff from the World of Wonder team including Drag Race’s executive producer, Fenton Bailey in Bangkok on Wednesday (10 January).
Kaljareuk also posted a cheeky video of what looks to be the set of the Thai Drag Race with RuPaul’s song, Charisma, Uniqueness, Nerve and Talent playing in the background.
