Russell Brand says he won’t ‘impose a gender’ upon expected first child

The comedian is expecting his first child with fiancée Laura Gallacher

Comedian Russell Brand opened up about expectations around being a first time father, having announcing the news via Instagram early this year, and the gender of the baby.

Brand told Jonathan Ross in an interview he’s been reading a book every week to learn about how to be a father.

‘I read a different book every week and I read one on preparation for fatherhood to mentally prepare me for it.

‘I’ve painted the room, I’ve done the things that you’re supposed to do, I’ve accepted the idea that that person will be more important than me.’

When asked if he’s been thinking about names, Brand responded that he hasn’t yet. He said he thought of ‘Jesus Three’ as a possible name.

‘We don’t know the gender I may not even ever impose a gender upon it, let the child grow up and be the whatever the hell it is, never tell it there is such a concept.’

Brand proposed to finacée Laura Gallacher recently, saying he cried during the proposal.

‘You know when you think “I’m being so nice now. Oh God, I think I’m going to cry” because you’re impressed with how nice you are,’ he said.

‘I properly planned it and put proper ideas into it and made it all nice and did like a surprise party for her.

‘Her mum helped me to organise it, get her on side!’
