Russia has slammed foreign diplomats attending a gay film festival in St Petersburg.
The Foreign Ministry has brought to the attention of the British Embassy in Moscow that employees were supporting the Side by Side LGBTI film festival.
‘We brought to the attention of the British Embassy in Moscow the fact that employees of the diplomatic mission are participating in an attempt to break down Russia’s traditional, moral and family values, and this is unacceptable,’ the Foreign Ministry’s statement said.
Vitaly Milonov, the St Petersburg deputy who authored the original ‘gay propaganda’ law, made the request to the Foreign Ministry, according to Interfax.
The ministry also noted the Norwegian and Swedish consulates, as well as the Australian and Canadian embassies were also partners of the festival.
