Russian lawmaker threatens to arrest Robbie Williams after he joked he was ‘49% gay’

A Russian lawmaker has threatened to arrest UK singer Robbie Williams for saying he is ‘49% gay’.

The Angels singer is set to perform in St Petersburg in April, but there is definitely one person who will not be entertained.

Vitaly Milonov, the politician behind Russia’s ‘gay propaganda’ law, has claimed Williams must be held ‘accountable’ for his actions.

‘The concert organizers must talk to the singer and tell him he must not make a statement supporting homosexuals,’ the lawmaker told Russian News Service.

‘If he will listen to the organizers, then we will not arrest him.’

In a 2013 interview, Williams joked he was ‘half gay’.

‘I love musical theatre and a lot of other things that are often associated with gays,’ he said.

‘I am 49% homosexual and sometimes as far as 50%. However, that would imply that I enjoy having a particular sort of fun, which I don’t.’

He has also said in the past he is a ‘straight person pretending to be gay’, and he is ‘camp by nature’.

Milonov has attempted to fine pro-gay pop stars for performing and making positive statements to the LGBTI community in St Petersburg before, such as with Madonna, Lady Gaga, Elton John and the rock group Rammstein. So far, he has not been successful.
