The leader of the Russian Orthodox Church has told congregants in Moscow’s Kazan Cathedral that same-sex marriage is a ‘very dangerous sign of the apocalypse.”
Patriarch Kirill I made the comments yesterday and said that recognizing same-sex relationships meant that ‘people are choosing a path of self-destruction.’
‘Some countries approve their choice in favor of sin and justify it by law,’ Kirill said according to Radio Free Europe.
The Patriarch also repeated comments in favor of Russia’s ban on so-called ‘homosexual propaganda’ which bans LGBT rights activism and public displays of same-sex affection.
Three Dutch tourists were arrested yesterday under the ban, with a court date for their trial set to be announced today.
If convicted of the law, the three people could be heavily fined, held for up to 14 days in Russian prison and then deported back to the Netherlands.
