New Ryan Murphy show features record number of trans actors

Pose features five trans actors playing main characters

A new Ryan Murphy show will feature the highest number of trans series regulars ever for a scripted show.

The five actors playing regular roles are: MJ Rodriguez, Indya Moore, Dominique Jackson, Hailie Sahar, and Angelica Ross.

They will all be playing trans characters.

MJ Rodriguez will play a character called Blanca, and has previously appeared in Nurse Jackie, The Carrie Diaries and Luke Cage.

Hailie Sahar will play Lulu and has also played roles in Mr. Robot and Transparent.

It took a six-month nationwide search to find the cast.

Also due to appear on the show are: Ryan Jamaal Swain, Billy Porter and Dyllon Burnside.

Murphy created the show with Brad Falchuk and Steven Canals.

Falchuk and Murphy have previously worked together on the likes of Nip/Tuck and American Horror Story.

Trans activist Silas Howard will serve as co-executive producer on the show.

Canals involved Our Lady J and Janet Mock in the script writing process.

80’s ball culture in New York City

He said: ‘We are thrilled that POSE pushes the narrative forward by centering on the unique and under-told experiences of trans women and gay people of color,

‘Ryan has assembled a strong team of storytellers and innovators to collaborate on telling this important narrative. As a Bronx-bred queer writer of color, I’m honored to aid in ushering this groundbreaking show into homes.’

FX will begin filming the pilot episode for Pose in November.

The show is ‘a period piece set in the mid-’80s in New York City, examining the juxtaposition of several segments of life and society in Manhattan: the emergence of the luxury Trump-era universe, the ball culture world, and downtown social and literary scene.’

Michael Roberson and Twiggy Picci Garçon will be serving as consultants to the series as it look at ball culture.

Leiomy Maldonado and Danielle Polanco will be responsible for choreographing the ball scenes.

Polanco has choreographed previously for legends such as Janet Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Beyoncé Knowles-Carter.
