The Oxford English Dictionary defines ‘heart throb’ as ‘a man, typically a celebrity, whose good looks excite romantic feelings in women.’

Well, the OED needs to update that definition.

Not only do other men use it to describe each other, but gender-fluid and nonbinary people do, too.

This point was perfectly illustrated this week by Sam Smith. And it’s all thanks to Charlie Puth’s indescribable attractiveness.

Indeed, the Too Good At Goodbyes singer Sam was lost for words while expressing admiration of the Dangerously singer on Monday.

Commenting on a recent topless picture of Charles, Sam simply wrote ‘heart throb’.

It generated countless responses from eagle-eyed fans, from calls for a collab to ‘yes hes [sic] cute but you’re more my type, Sam you melt my heart.’

(Also, on a tangent, why can’t women and gender-fluid/non-binary people be considered heartthrobs?!)

‘Your voice does things to my body’

It’s not the first time Sam has publicly expressed his appreciation for another singer in decidedly thirsty terms.

In 2015, for instance, the star – who last month clarified their gender identity, saying ‘I’m not male or female’ – said of Troye Sivan: ‘‘His voice does things to my body‘.

Sam previously dated 13 Reasons Why actor Brandon Flynn, who was recently photographed with Game of Thrones actor Richard Madden, sparking dating rumors.
