Titled ‘A nontraditional baby announcement for a nontraditional family’, user MeggoEggo1’s photo features her and her partner in custom-made T-shirts, with one bearing the words, ‘I’m pregnant’, and the other – MeggoEggo1 herself – carrying the slogan, ‘I’m not the father’.
The image has now prompted over 1,200 comments – most offering congratulations, others asking questions about the method of conception and how the women decided who would carry the child, and a few just offering old-fashioned homophobia and prejudice.
In answer to some of the questions, MeggoEggo1 reveals that the baby was created through IUI (intrauterine insemination).
When asked by one user how they decided who would carry the child, MeggoEggo1 reveals, ‘My wife has dated men before me so she always assumed she’d have a baby biologically. I had no interest. So it just worked out that way.
‘She really wanted to and I didn’t so it was easy to decide.’
When asked why they chose conceiving over adoption, she replied, ‘My wife wanted to biologically have at least one. We’re adopting if we do it again.’
The baby is due in July 2015.
Congratulations to both moms-to-be!
