This was Sarah Paulson’s reaction when told to ‘be careful’ about age-gap relationship with Holland Taylor

Sarah Paulson has addressed her relationship with Holland Taylor in a new interview.

Speaking to The Edit, the subject came up unprompted when Sarah was talking about long-time collaborator and Glee creator Ryan Murphy, who cast her in American Horror Story.

Saying he gravitates to ‘left-of-center’ people, Sarah was asked if she considers herself as such, to which she replied: ‘My life choices are, um, unconventional. I’m with a much older person [Sarah is 42, Holland is 74] and people find that totally fascinating and odd, and, to me, it’s the least interesting thing about me.’

She furthermore added: ‘But I do feel a bit unconventional. I am a woman of a certain age who chose not to have children, and who has made my career my priority. I am the captain of my own ship, and I’ve never looked to anyone else to validate that, or tell me it’s okay.’

Sarah also said that some people her in her life advised her against dating Holland openly – advice she gladly completely ignored.

‘Early on, when people found out I was with Holland, some said: “I think you have to be careful, I’m afraid it’s going to affect your career negatively”‘ she said. ‘I was like, what? It never occurred to me at all.’

She adds that despite doubting telling Holland she loved her on stage when collecting her Emmy for The People v. O.J. Simpson, (‘I had a moment of societal concern; wondering if, maybe, people who didn’t know that about me would be like, wait, what?’), she ‘you know, […] did it anyway!”

‘It is a very cool chain to be part of’

The star also spoke out about her group WhatsApp chat with her co-stars from the movie Ocean’s Eight, out next year.

Sarah will appear in the movie along with seven other huge names: Rihanna, Cate Blanchett, Sandra Bullock, Helena Bonham Carter, Mindy Kaling and also rising star Awkwafina.

‘I’m not going to lie, it is a very cool chain to be part of,’ she says. ‘We can go weeks without a chirp, then someone sends one message, and it’s like – ‘brp, brp, brp’ – your phone just blows up for hours.’
