Selfridges goes gender neutral

UK department store Selfridges has announced that it will do away with men’s and women’s sections and instead offer three floors of unisex fashion.

Male and female mannequins will be removed from the shop floor, and beauty products and accessories will also be rearranged when the six-week ‘agender’ project launches in March.

‘We want to take our customers on a journey where they can shop and dress without limitations or stereotypes,’ the store said in a statement.

‘A space where clothing is no longer imbued with directive gender values, enabling fashion to exist as a purer expression of "self."’

The project is part of wider trend in fashion toward less gendered clothing and will run from March 12 to the end of April.
