Shamans have cursed the property developers who are responsible for turning the site of one of London’s oldest gay saunas into a luxury hotel.
Patrons and supporters of Chariot’s in Shoreditch gathered together to cast a spell in protest against the loss of LGBTI venues in the capital.
Many of them, including last week’s closure of Chariots in Streatham as well as bars like the Joiner’s Arms, the Black Cap and the George & Dragon, are making way for other spaces like cafés and straight bars.
A green-cloaked shaman took lead at the protest held at the weekend. He held a ‘magic potion’, a mixture of glitter and human semen.
‘Queer ancestors come forth,’ he cried, before throwing the potion on the floor. ‘Stand strong beside us. Banish this evil from time and space.’
The shaman told Vice it was an ‘ancient Romany curse’.
‘We’re cursing the descendants of these property developers to be queer for 13 generations – only for us to be queer is a blessing – so this is really just a blessing on this space, to make it sacred.’
Gay Star News contacted Gensler, the property developer responsible for demolishing the gay sauna to make way for a hotel, and has yet to receive a response.
