Shawn Mendes nails this acoustic cover of Queen’s Under Pressure

Sexuality is a topic Shawn Mendes is tired of discussing

Singer Shawn Mendes lent his voice to a cover of a Queen song, and it sounds great.

This acoustic cover of Under Pressure, featuring friend and fellow singer-songwriter Teddy Geiger, was recorder for the soundtrack of the upcoming movie Bohemian Rhapsody.

When releasing the song, Mendes wrote on Twitter that he did this song ‘to honor Freddie’ and ‘for a cause really close to our hearts’. The organization the song benefits is the Mercury Phoenix Trust, which fights HIV/AIDS worldwide.

Following Mercury’s death, the remaining members of Queen helped launch the foundation.

Listen to part of the song here:

Mendes, one of pop’s music biggest heartthrobs, recently made headlines — and more fans — within the LGBTI community when he stood up for Geiger.

Geiger announced her transition about a year ago, and made her first red carpet appearance following that earlier this year.

Soon after, Mendes made a public and heartfelt declaration of support for Geiger.

In a statement, Queen manager Jim Beach, who also helped set up the foundation, released a statement about the cover.

‘Shawn is a hugely talented artist and he and Teddy have given us a stunning version of this Queen and David Bowie classic. All of us at The Mercury Phoenix Trust are eternally grateful to Shawn and UMG for helping us in this way in the ongoing fight to conquer the global AIDS epidemic,’ he said.

Bohemian Rhapsody stars Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury. It comes out on 24 October in the UK and 2 November in the US.
