Everyone, including Julie Andrews, adored Lady Gaga’s take on the Sound of Music at the 2015 Oscars.
So it was only a matter of time before the tribute was returned in kind.
The UK cast of the Sound of Music, including Over The Rainbow winner Danielle Hope, sing their way through Lady Gaga’s classic hits in the habit of the musical in a new video.
Anton Belmonté, the director of the video, said it was actually filmed in April of last year.
‘It wasn’t supposed to be released. I’m not sure how it has actually come out as it wasn’t initially approved by the Rodgers and Hammerstein estate,’ he told Gay Star News. ‘I’m shocked how it suddenly appeared online yesterday.’
Belmonte said the video was very low budget, with him editing and directing the video himself. He normally works as a freelance editor who has worked on the TV trailers for the Sound of Music, Jesus Christ Superstar and Joseph.
‘It was a real group effort between myself, Danielle, [musical director] Jeremy Wootton, and [producer] Chris Clegg to get it to all come together,’ he added.
‘I’ve always loved the show since I was a kid, and I like Lady Gaga. I’m so shocked by how much people are loving our tribute!’
UPDATE: Lady Gaga has since tweeted to say how much she loved the video.
I mean this is just so amazing, the instrumentation and the performers! Thank you from the bottom of my heart! https://t.co/bj2eCO9N1N
