India’s biggest queer film festival is looking for people to design its new poster

Wendell Rodricks

The biggest LGBTI film festival in south Asia has launched an international competition for artists to design the 2018 festival poster.

The KASHISH Mumbai International Queer Film Festival is on the hunt for a new poster for the festival which will run from 23-27 May in Mumbai.

Wendell Rodricks, one of India’s leading fashion designers and prominent LGBTI activist will return to judge the competition. The winner will receive a cash prize of Rs 25,000 Rupees (US$392).

‘I am proud to be out here supporting the KASHISH. Each year the poster moves forward in different directions that the LGBT community grows towards,’ Rodricks said.

‘I wish the participant all the best… and to the organizers, more success, greater visibility and empowerment to the LGBT community via KASHISH 2018.’

The official poster will define the overall look of the festival ninth year. The theme of the 2018 festival is, ‘Together, With Pride’

‘This year’s theme ‘Together, With Pride’ is very apt considering KASHISH is one of the biggest pride events in India, embracing diversity of LGBTQ community and allies,’ said festival director Sridhar Rangayan.

‘We hope to make KASHISH 2018 more diverse and inclusive and are reaching out across various communities and bringing them all together.

‘Every year the look of KASHISH has been defined by the unique design that comes out of this design contest which receives entries from across the world.

‘This year the stakes are higher and we are looking forward to some amazing entries.’

The winning design will be used on billboards, banners, cinema slides, delegate cards, T-shirts and the program cover.

Poster submissions can be emailed to [email protected]. For more details about the contest and the festival, please see www.mumbaiqueerfest.com.

A big deal

KASHISH was voted one of the top five LGBTI film festivals in the world. It is the only Indian LGBT film held in a mainstream theatre.

Starting in 2010, KASHISH was the first Indian LGBT festival to be held with approval by the Federal Information and Broadcasting Ministry, Government of India.

The main festival is held over 5 days at three venues.
