Geri Horner has denied reports that she had a relationship with her Spice Girls bandmate Mel B in the 90s.
Rumors have swirled that the pair had a year-long romance after Mel B claimed she had bedded Geri, while being interviewed for a recent taping of Piers Morgan’s Life Stories.
Mel said on the show: ‘She [Geri] is going to hate me for this because she is all posh in her country house and her husband, but it’s a fact. It just happened and we just giggled at it and that was it.’
She furthermore added: ‘We were best friends. It just happened.’
‘Far longer than one night’
Geri did not publicly address the reports until yesterday, when the Mail on Sunday ran a story claiming what happened between the pair was not a one off.
A source told the publication: ‘It was in the very early days of the Spice Girls and their relationship lasted far longer than one night – it was at least 12 months.
‘They deeply bought into the whole Girl Power phenomenon – they wanted to lead it.’
The source furthermore continued: ‘They felt what better way was there to do that than for girls to enjoy one another?’
”Geri loves the Spice Girls’
Ginger Spice, however, said in a statement via a publicist: ‘It has been very disappointing to read about all these rumours again, especially on Mother’s Day of all days.’
‘Geri loves the Spice Girls: Emma, Melanie, Melanie and Victoria [Beckham]. She would like [the fans] to know that what has been reported recently is simply not true and has been very hurtful to her family.’
The statement finally added: ‘Moving forward, Geri can’t wait to see the girls and all the fans on the tour, have an amazing time with everyone, and make some new memories.’
