jjs clubhouse bear and leather bar st louis shutting down

Another beloved LGBTI space is under threat as JJ’s Clubhouse in St Louis is up for sale.

This is particularly harsh news as JJ’s has been the center of bear culture in St Louis, Missouri, for nearly two decades. A real estate ad for the property doesn’t name the venue but describes a ‘large nightclub’ near the Grove.

While it is primarily advertised as a bar, the realtors are trying to tempt new buyers with other options for the space.

The current asking price is $1,999,999 (€1,766,809).

The ad reads:

‘You can own one of the largest night clubs in the city with 3 bars and outdoor patio. Currently, this alternative night club has been opened 19 years and has 21,000 sq. ft. of space included in the sale.

‘While the current sellers have a great business in place with many loyal customers this property could also be developed for renovated living spaces, office space, or perfect for a micro-brewery.

‘Sellers are wanting to retire and move out of state but would stay on and train new owners for an extended period of time if need be.’

Gay Star News has reached out to JJ’s Clubhouse for comment.

A blow to the Midwest bear community

The club hosts a wide range of events catering to the leather and bear gay community. Every first Thursday of the month is fetish night. Here people are encouraged to wear their favorite gear and experiment in a safe environment.

They also host the social club Show-Me Bears and in the past been the venue for Mr Midwest Leather.

According to the ad, the club employs 11 people part time.
