Stephen Fry’s new fiancé Elliott Spencer yesterday (5 January) was banned from driving for speeding at 101mph in a £130,000 Aston Martin.
A day after news of their engagement broke, the 27-year-old comedian appeared in a South Wales court to receive his sentence – a seven-day driving ban and a £205 fine.
Fry, 57, supported his husband-to-be at the 30-minute hearing.
Cwmbran Magistrates’ Court heard that the QI presenter took ‘full responsibility’ for the offense because he was running late for a literary festival in summer and told Elliott to ‘get a move on.’
Defense lawyer Mark Wyeth QC said Fry was due to give as the new president of the Hay Festival of Literature and the Arts on the Welsh borders.
‘They hit a large backlog of traffic and in a moment of indiscretion Mr Fry suggested to Mr Spencer that he might like to get a move on,’ he said.
‘No other drivers were inconvenienced and he eventually did make it by a matter of a few minutes, in time for the festival.’
Spencer also crashed his partner’s £150,000 Bentley Continental GT into the side of his garage in central London yesterday.
Fry reportedly sat ‘wincing’ at the scratches as the younger man shrugged it off as ‘nothing.’
