Steve Martin has dismissed reports of a gay Father of the Bride sequel, saying he has not been offered the role or seen a script.
The 68-year-old was expected to return to the classic comedy series, as reported by Hollywood insider Nikki Finke.
Diane Keaton was expected to return as his wife Nina. The film was reported to focus on the couple’s son, originally played by Kieran Culkin, and his upcoming nuptials to another man.
Unable to process the news, the ‘thunderstruck and speechless’ dad would have been thrown out of the family home by the mom.
Martin dismissed the reports on Twitter, saying: ‘So excited to read I’m doing Father of the Bride 3 since I haven’t seen a script or been offered the role!’
It would have been the first entirely original movie in the series.
The 1991 Father of the Bride was based on the 1950 film of the same name. The 1995 sequel was also based on 1951’s Father’s Little Dividend –the sequel to the first movie.
