Stockholm Pride in 15 pictures – including an Italian gay wedding

An Italian gay couple tied the knot during the Stockholm Pride parade last weekend

Following a week of showers, Stockholm Pride’s climactic parade enjoyed perfect, sunny weather conditions on Saturday – with thousands bearing witness as gay couple Diego Angemi and Francesco Ceccarini said their ‘I do’s’ aboard their own float.

Angemi, 36, and Ceccarini, 33, who both live in Sweden, wed in front of the Kulturhuset, or ‘Culture House’, and streamed the event on YouTube.

The couple see the ceremony as a message to Italy, where same-sex couples cannot get married or enter into civil partnerships. Sweden has recognised gay marriage since 2009.

Angemi told The Local: ‘We want to make a political statement to pressure Italy into legalizing same-sex marriage.’

He added: ‘Not every European country has come as far as Sweden, and Italy and Greece are probably the ones who are furthest behind. When our family and friends return to Italy after Stockholm Pride, they’ll tell others how joyful and festive it was, which is exactly what Italians need to hear.’

Approximately 400,000 attended this year’s Stockholm Pride, with 40,000 taking part in the march.

Gay Star News attended Stockholm Pride as part of the #mygaypride digital campaign, flying with Norwegian Airlines and staying with Hotel Rival.

Norwegian, named the ‘Best European Low-Cost Carrier’ by SKYTRAX World Airline Awards conveniently flies from London Gatwick direct to Stockholm Arlanda, just 20 minutes from the city by the Arlanda Express Train. And with free wi-fi onboard to stay connected you can Tweet and Instagram ‘til your heart’s content – though the closest Grindr profile might be 10,000m away. Gay Star Travel traveled to Gatwick Airport on the Gatwick Express.
