The target audience for the Magic Mike movies was gay men and straight women.
Apparently, a lot of straight men are fans of the male stripper movies too. But they keep it on the down low.
That’s what openly gay actor Matt Bomer revealed during a recent appearance on Conan O’Brien’s talk show.
O’Brien quizzed the actor, ‘How many straight guys come up to you and say “Oh I love you from the Magic Mike movies”.’
‘Quite a few actually,’ Bomer replied. ‘It’s a very covert ops kind of situation. Very surreptitious.’
The actor, who got his start on the daytime soap opera Guiding Light, said the straight male fans only started approaching him about Magic Mike after the Netflix streaming debut and DVD release.
‘They would come up to me very surreptitiously, and be like, “Hey man, I saw Magic Mike. It’s a pretty good movie”,’ Bomer said.
After admitting that, Bomer reported the straight men would quickly add, ‘“I saw it with my girlfriend. I was with my girlfriend”.’
