A movie director has discussed casting Heath Ledger in the lead role of 10 Things About You, saying he was moved by the star’s ‘palpable sexuality.’

Gil Junger recently told the NYT he insisted Heath was cast in the role of Patrick immediately after meeting him.

‘Heath walked in, and I thought to myself, if this guy can read, I’m going to cast him. There was an energy to him, a sexuality that was palpable.’

‘The instant the door closed’

Junger goes on to describe the ‘short’ audition, which involved him asking Heath to do some improv.

‘The instant the door closed, I turned to the women in the room and said, “Ladies, I have never wanted to sleep with a man, but if I had to sleep with a man, that would be the man.”‘

He furthermore said: ‘”Please cast him immediately.”‘

The movie turned 20 years old yesterday.

Heath would of course go on to play one of the most iconic gay men in Hollywood history: Ennis in 2005’s Brokeback Mountain.

The star was also known for roles in Monster’s Ball, A Knight’s Tale and The Dark Knight.

He passed away in 2008 after an accidental overdose.
