Sydney Mardi Gras seeking events for 2014 festival

Th Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras is calling for artists and events to come forward now if they want to be included in its 2014 festival.

The 2014 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Festival will run from 7 February to 2 March and artists seeking to be involved in 2014 will no longer be made to pay an application fee.

Mardi Gras has also streamlined the application process, with artists only needing to fill out and return a single page Expression of Interest form.

Those expressions of interest that are selected to be part of the festival program will then be invited to formally register their event for inclusion in the festival.

‘Stage one is where we just want to know about your incredible ideas and how they will contribute to the vibrant celebrations of the LGBTQI community,’ Sydney Mardi Gras associate producer James Rongen-Hall said.

‘Being involved in Mardi Gras is being part of something amazing – three weeks of fun, celebration and festival buzz!

‘We want to hear from artists, community groups, venues, arts organizations, and independent and commercial producers about how you would like to get involved.’

Festival categories include Performing Arts, Visual Arts, Social Activities, Youth, Community and Sporting events.

The Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras will accept expressions of interest until August 30, with prospective events to be notified of whether they have been accepted for inclusion in the program by 6 September.

Events will have until 18 September to formally register for inclusion in the festival, and Mardi Gras will have to receive all marketing and promotional material for each event by 1 October.

Mardi Gras CEO Michael Rolik announced in July that the organization had returned to financial health following its 2013 festival, posting a modest profit of over $45,000.
