A Taiwanese presidential candidate has released a beautiful campaign video featuring three gay couples.

Tsai Ing-wen, candidate for the opposition Democratic People’s Party (DPP), Thursday (21 August) posted a video on Facebook for Chinese Valentine’s Day, which is celebrated on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month.

The 1.30-minute clip, titled Love Does Not Differentiate, celebrates the island’s diversity with couples of different ages, races, sexual orientations and nationalities – including two lesbian couples and a gay pair – and a song sung in four languages.

‘I wish you all Happy Valentine’s Day,’ Tsai wrote under the video, which received nearly 30,000 likes and more than 200,000 views in its first 24 hours.

‘I’m very happy to see there are gay couples in the video!’ commented one viewer.

‘I look forward to Chairwoman Tsai putting forward specific gay policies in her upcoming election campaign.’

Another said: ‘You don’t need to bless other people, find yourself a lover first!’

Tsai’s sexuality has come under speculation in the past as she remains unmarried at 58.

The DPP chairperson has refused to answer questions about her private life, saying she will not become ‘an accomplice of gender oppression.’

Tsai will face the Kuomintang’s Hung Hsiu-chu in the 2016 general elections, almost guaranteeing Taiwan its first female president.
