Actor William Jackson Harper has confirmed a theory The Good Place fans have been speculating on for two seasons.
Harper, who plays Chidi on the NBC/Netflix show about the afterlife, said protagonist Eleanor Shellstrop, played by Kristen Bell, is ‘super bisexual’.
In an interview with UK newspaper Metro, Harper suggested Eleanor is an out bisexual. Furthermore, he said a romance with Tahani, portrayed by British radio presenter Jameela Jamil, might be ‘on the table’.
Eleanor’s bisexuality is canon
Fans have been waiting for this moment ever since season one began. They already created a blending to ship the on-screen potential couple, Teleanor.
To the fandom’s joy, Harper revealed Teleanor might be a thing.
‘There’s a million different possibilities and one of the things I think the show does well, and really kind of into, is the fact that Eleanor is super bisexual and it’s not something that we just focus on.’
‘It’s not the reason for the show and it’s not a thing that is harped on, it’s just who she is,’ he also said.
‘I think that’s great to not just completely focus on one aspect of a person’s character because it seems to be the most buzz-worthy thing in the show, or potentially buzz-worthy thing on the show.’
‘It’s not something we have follow-up questions on’
‘I think it’s great. It’s not something we don’t talk about, she talks about it, and we all kind of accept it instead of, you know, go “hey let’s unpack that, let’s talk about it”.
Moreover, he added: ‘No one bats an eye at it, and that’s certainly true of people that I hang out with, if someone says they’re attracted to whatever person and it’s not something we have follow-up questions on. It’s just how they are.’
The Good Place is back
Despite Bell’s character has only had relationships with men, that doesn’t mean she can’t be bisexual.
As the end of season 2 hinted at the blooming of a romance between her and Chidi, a relationship with Tahani might still be possible. The two women have also been soulmates in one of Michael’s (Ted Danson) versions of The Good Place, after all.
Eleanor has expressed her attraction to Tahani on several occasions. She has called Tahani a ‘sexy giraffe’ and a ‘sexy skyscraper’. She also referred to her as ‘tall and glamorous with cappuccino skin and curves everywhere’.
The Good Place season 3 premiered on 27 September with a 43-minute double episode. It airs on NBC every Thursday and the new episode is released on Netflix UK on Friday.
