The rumor mills that gay icon Cher would headline Sydney’s Mardi Gras Party were true. The pop diva has just been confirmed as the main act at the world famous party in an exclusive Australian performance.
Sydney’s Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras festival turns 40 this year and is one of the world’s biggest LGBTI celebrations. The month long festival is capped off by the famous street parade and epic after party on 3 March.
Cher is one of the biggest selling artists of all time, with a No. 1 hit record in each of the last five decades. She has sold more than 100 million album sales world-wide and has won an Oscar, three Golden Globes, an Emmy. and a Grammy.
‘Cher has established herself as an influential, hard-hitting voice in global politics, and throughout her career has been at the forefront of LGBTQI campaigns and numerous charities,’ said Mardi Gras CEO, Terese Casu.
The 2018 Mardi Gras Party’s tickets already sold out before midnight, forcing organizers to add another venue, additional eateries which allows them to add a final allocation of tickets for sale.
The strictly limited number of newly released tickets go on sale Monday 15 January at 10am AEDT for members only. The final release tickets for the general public are on sale 10am AEDT Wednesday 17 January.
